Abstract

The current study describes the effectiveness of a program to incrementing Hope, based on the theoretical model of hope (Snyder, 2000), through a longitudinal methodology. This intervention was designed to increase levels of hope and thus increase the perception of quality of life, and promoting the reduction of levels of perception, and of vulnerability to stress. This study includes a sample of 11 participants and a control group with the same number of subjects from a community hospital professionals. Both groups completed an assessment protocol consists of a demographic questionnaire, the portuguese version of the Hope Scale, WHOQOLBref, 23 QVS, and BSI. The intervention group showed increased levels of hope, and quality of life, as well as a decrease in the perception of vulnerability to stress, from pre-test to post-test, suggesting the existence of change during the intervention period. The results suggest that a brief intervention of hope may result in a benefit to the experiences of the participants, although it was not extended in time, which imply the need for further studies.
