The world is going through a difficult time in its history, facing an economic, political and financial crisis comparable only with the Great Depression of 1930. Despite being analyzed in its origins and causes, by the economic and political fields, an analysis of its impact on the individual is completely neglected. Unemployment, as a result of the economic crisis, has strong psychological impact on the individual. In this sense, the main objective of this research is the analysis of the impact and the consequences of unemployment on subjective well-being and mental health of the individual, at the same time, it tries to understand whether the transition process (employment-unemployment) is experienced in the same way by different individuals. For this reason, at the initial stage, it resorts to the literature to understand what is being said, then, to corroborate the hypothesis, bases on the bibliographic review performed, it uses eight interviews of individuals in the context of unemployment and enrolled at the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP), in northern Portugal.

O mundo atravessa um momento conturbado da sua história, enfrentado uma crise económica, política e financeira só comparável com a Grande Depressão de 1930. Apesar de analisar-se as origens e as causas nas várias vertentes da economia e da política, descura-se o individuo e a forma como a crise o atinge. O desemprego, como resultado da crise económica, tem forte impacto psicológico no indivíduo. Neste sentido, o principal objetivo desta investigação prende-se com a análise do impacto e das consequências do desemprego no bem-estar subjetivo e na saúde mental do individuo, ao mesmo tempo, que tenta perceber-se se o processo de transição (emprego-desemprego) é vivenciado da mesma forma por diferentes indivíduos. Para isso, numa fase inicial, recorre-se à literatura para compreender do que se fala, posteriormente, para corroborar as hipóteses, elaboradas com base na revisão bibliográfica efetuada, utiliza-se oito entrevistas de indivíduos em contexto de desemprego e inscritos no Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional (IEFP), na região norte do país.
