Abstract

Aiming to evaluate the influence of sociocultural context and ethnic groups on how marital and reciprocal adjustments work, three hundred couples, in which 150 are Angolan and 150 are Portuguese, both have answered to a full protocol through the Sociodemographic data file and the complementary data, Mutual Adjustment Scale (EAM Lourenço & Relvas, 2003) and Scale of Marriage Enrichment and Development, Communication and Happiness (ENRICH, Lourenço & Relvas, 2003). After the statistical analysis, the data presents the existence of a strong relationship between the ethnical group in which the couple belongs to and the different marital dimensions. Among the sociodemographic and marital variables selected, the academic levels and the number of past relationship are the most figures that point out the factors of marital influence. Being this a survey on two distinguished marital differences, we wish to encourage new studies on the marriages in Angola, in the sense of perspetive in the context of sociocultural differences, protective factors and / or vulnerability, importants for the understanding of marriage.
