Abstract

A pulverização catódica ao permitir modificar a composição química dos materiais convencionais, ou porque lhes altera a morfologia, a estrutura, a estequiometria, ou lhes introduz, se a atmosfera de deposição for adequada, grupos químicos capazes de reagir com as espécies pulverizadas, abre novos caminhos para a preparação de superfícies baseadas em materiais tradicionais, convenientes para aplicação na área dos biomateriais, em particular como suporte sólido para a imobilização de compostos biológicos nos biossensores. Dos materiais pulverizados com o objectivo de obter superfícies adequadas à imobilização, as resultantes de pulverização do PTFE e da sílica, apresentaram características compatíveis com a sua utilização como suportes sólidos para a ligação covalente de enzimas. Em contrapartida, os filmes finos formados a partir da deposição por pulverização catódica, quer da alumina quer da zircónia, apresentam insuficiente concentração de grupos reactivos capazes de promoverem uma efectiva eficiência destas superfícies como componente dos biossensores. Contudo, testes in vitro, mostraram que estas novas superfícies poderão ter um papel importante noutras utilizações em que seja necessário o contacto com sistemas biológicos.
