Ostracods from 58 marl samples from the Toarcian of Rabaçal (Coimbra, Portugal) were studied. This marly limestone series, deposited in a deep marine environment, has abundant benthic and nektonic macrofauna, and it is accurately constrained as regards to biostratigraphy by amonnoids and calcareous nannofossils. The new results from the ostracod fauna allows the establishment of a new biostratigraphical scale for this group which, compared with the previous scales, allows changing some data, namely the Metacopina extinction event.
