Abstract

Este trabalho faz parte de um estudo mais amplo que envolve a determinação, por microscopia confocal, das dimensões de fibras de pastas de E. globulus, cultivado em Portugal. Em particular, nesta publicação é abordada a implementação e aplicabilidade da referida técnica, sendo apresentados os resultados relativos a duas pastas produzidas em condições de cozimento laboratorial significativamente distintas, analisadas antes e após a refinação. Resultados esses que são confrontados com os de microscopia convencional. Este estudo confirma que a microscopia confocal é uma técnica confiável que permite recolher muito mais informação sobre a secção recta das fibras do que a microscopia ótica directa, e que é também mais adequada do que esta para detectar eventuais modificações estruturais associadas ś diferentes fases e condições do processo de fabricação da pasta e do papel. Em paralelo, verifica-se igualmente que, ao contrário das técnicas clássicas se seccionamento real das fibras, a microscopia confocal permite efectuar medições mais simples e rápidas, sem danificar a estrutura transversal das fibras.
