Abstract

This internship report focuses on the curricular experience carried out at Público newspaper between October 2024 and January 2025, in the Ímpar section, which specialises in lifestyle topics such as well-being, food, fashion, beauty, relationships and public figures. The first part presents Público's background as a leading newspaper in Portugal, while contextualising its editorial and digital evolution. The practical experience in the Ímpar section is then described, including the newsroom routines, the journalistic genres explored, the content produced (27 signed articles) and the challenges faced. The second part delves into the theoretical framework of lifestyle journalism, emphasising the role of narrative, the symbolic construction of identities and the ethical boundaries between journalism and promotion. The third part corresponds to the case study based on 68 wellness articles published in Ímpar during the internship, assessed according to analysis criteria including journalistic genre, format, themes, partnership, sources, multimediality, among others. The results show a predominance of digital articles, often timeless and based on individual sources or specialists, where the theme of health is central. There are also tensions between public utility and market logic, as well as a modest use of multimedia resources. In this way, the report seeks to reflect on the meanings constructed in wellness narratives and the role of lifestyle journalism in proposing ways of life, through certain ways of telling these narratives.
