O Conceito Transit-Oriented Development (Tod) no Projeto Metrobus

Abstract

Urban growth creates many challenges, particularly in the field of sustainable mobility. The concept of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) emerges as a response to these challenges, proposing the integration between public transport and surrounding land uses. Within this framework, the node–place (NP) model, proposed by Bertolini (1999), constitutes an analytical tool that makes it possible to assess the balance between accessibility (node) and urban functions (place). This dissertation applies this approach to the case of the Metrobus in the Coimbra Region, the largest public transport investment in the region in recent decades, implemented in the municipalities of Coimbra, Miranda do Corvo, and Lousã.The methodology was structured in several phases: literature review, definition of indicators adapted to the local context, data collection and processing through Geographic Information Systems, and finally, application of the NP model and the butterfly model to selected stations. The results obtained show that most suburban stations fall into the dependency zone, due to low density and diversity of land uses, while urban stations present greater balance, although many reveal imbalances favoring the node function. The detailed analysis of stations such as Coimbra-B confirms the relevance of the Detailed Plan under development, reinforcing the need for urban requalification measures.Urban growth creates many challenges, particularly in the field of sustainable mobility.
