Exchange rate volatility has been a crucial factor for companies and economies since the adoption of the floating exchange rate regime by some countries, primarily in the 1970s. This has incorporated exchange rate risk into various economic and financial variables, subsequently affecting economic growth. However, the literature on the subject remains controversial, and there is no consensus on the impact of exchange rate volatility on economic growth. The effect in question is likely to influence several economic variables, including trade, inflation, and investment, and consequently, economic growth. This study seeks to contribute to the understanding of the effects of exchange rate fluctuations by investigating the relationship between exchange rate volatility and economic growth, using panel data from OECD member countries for the period 1995 to 2022.The results indicate that exchange rate volatility has a negative and significant impact on economic growth, corroborating existing literature. Additionally, government policies were found to have a positive relationship with economic growth, while investment showed a negative relationship with it. This negative impact can generate several adverse economic consequences, including increased import and export costs, inflationary pressure on prices, and the creation of an uncertain environment for investors. Therefore, governments and monetary authorities need to comprehend these phenomena to develop policies that stabilize and encourage growth.
