Abstract

This internship report was prepared as part of the Master’s in Management at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra. The report is based on the completion of the Curricular Internship at Grestel, S.A., a company within Grupo COSTA NOVA Indústria, which took place during the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The report addresses the various research and activities carried out throughout the internship with the aim of developing a formal mentoring program for new employees, a proposal that complements the existing onboarding process within the organization. The first chapter is dedicated to a literature review on Human Resource Management, focusing on the onboarding process within organizations, socialization process and psychological contract. It also approaches the topic of mentoring in organizations. This analysis allowed the development of a formal mentoring program with the necessary characteristics to be effective, according to the literature, but also adapted to the industrial reality and to the specific dynamics of the organization. The second chapter presents the organization, its areas of operation, as well as the characterization of the Human Resources department. The third chapter explains the various activities undertaken during the Curricular Internship, which enabled the exploration of different aspects of Human Resources. The fourth chapter is dedicated to the project designed for the organization, the formal mentoring program for new employees, where the entire process of creating the program is explained. With the development of a formal mentoring program, it is intended to ensure that new employees will have the necessary support from a colleague in the department, whose goal will be to assist the new employee in their integration into the organization, ensuring that they develop the necessary relationships to become autonomous in their workplace.
