Abstract

A industrialização e o aumento da dependência da humanidade dos combustíveis fósseis provocou o aumentou da pegada carbónica, com consequências severas para o clima do nosso planeta. O uso de biocombustíveis tem sido um ponto de partida para a redução da utilização dos combustíveis fósseis, contribuindo assim para um futuro mais ecológico.A PRIO tem vindo a apostar em projetos baseados em necessidades e em ideias para a redução da pegada carbónica. Um desses projetos é o projeto TKBIOS2. Este vincula a utilização de novos e dos já existentes biocombustíveis nas misturas de combustíveis utilizados pelos utilizadores finais, reduzindo assim a percentagem de utilização da gasolina e do gasóleo, que são combustíveis fósseis.Neste trabalho foram realizadas simulações de mecânica dos fluidos computacional do escoamento nos tanques de mistura, propostos no projeto TKBIOS2, durante o processo de enchimento dos tanques com os componentes da mistura combustível. Este trabalho serve para pré-validação dos instrumentos utilizados para realizar a mistura.É feita uma breve apresentação da evolução do uso dos combustíveis fósseis desde 1800, quais as medidas tomadas na União Europeia para combater as emissões de gases efeitos de estufa e uma explicação de como funcionará o projeto, desde uma breve explicação do projeto global até ao detalhe de funcionamento de mistura.Apesar de todas as limitações neste trabalho, considera-se que foi alcançado o objetivo inicial, tornando-se, assim, uma base para futuros projetos.

Industrialization and the increase of humanity’s reliance on fossil fuels has increased our carbon footprint, with severe consequences for our planet climate. The use of biofuels is an important first step to reduce the use of fossil fuels, contributing to a more ecological future.PRIO has been working on needs-based projects and ideas to reduce our carbon footprint. One such project is the TKBIOS2 project. This project entails the use of new and pre-existing biofuels in blends of fuels used by the final costumer, reducing the percentage of use of gasoline and diesel (fossil fuels).In this work were made computational fluid dynamics simulations of the flow in the blend tanks, proposed in the TKBIOS2 project, during the process of filling the tanks with the fuel blends components, two simulation per blend with different inputs. This work serves to pre-validate the instruments used to reach the blend.This work also includes a brief presentation of the evolution of the use of fossil fuels since 1800, the measures the European Union took to fight greenhouse gas emissions, and an explanation of how the project will work, touching the global goal of the TKBIOS2 project and explanation of the mixture system and finally conclusion if is needed more systems to mix or if it is enough.Despite all the work limitations, the initial objective was reached, constituting a basis for future projects.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
