Conflito Coparental, Ajustamento ao Divórcio e Coparentalidade

Abstract

Frame: Divorce is a highly demanding and impactful situation, that affects the development of family life. As such, it brings a great deal of adjustments on both the individual, and within the family as well. Aims: Analysis of co-parenting as a mediator of the relationship between the type of divorce, and the family adjustment to said divorce. The intent is also to explore how the parental conflict and the family adjustment to divorce is affected by socio-demographic and familial variables.Method: A quantitative study was conducted, with a sample of 86 participants, either separated or divorced, with children from those very same relationships. The data was collected through an online protocol, which included a Socio-demographic Questionnaire and of Familial and Complementary Data, and the English versions of Divorce Adjustment Inventory Revised, of the Co-parenting Questionnaire, and the Acrimony Scale. Results: There is no significant connection of the cooperation mediation (co-parenting) relationship between the type of divorce and conflict and disfunction within the family (familial adjustment to divorce). However, there was a statistically significant positive link between cooperation and familial conflict and disfunction. When it comes to the association between the socio-demographic and familial variables, it was found that there are significant differences in the parent gender in terms of familial adjustment to divorce and in the kind of divorce in connection to co-parental conflict. Discussion and Conclusion: With this exploratory study, we intent to contribute towards the research around this topic, in order to determine preventive and risk factors associated with divorce, promoting healthier familial connections and directing lines of future research.
