Las sibilantes en las obras menores de Mateo Alemán

Abstract

La evolución de los fonemas sibilantes es uno de los cambios fonológicos más estudiados del español clásico. Mateo Alemán reconoce en su Ortografía castellana (1609) ser consciente de la variación lectal: «me vuelvo al natural como la gata de Venus, y pecado general en los andaluces, de que no se han escapado los castellanos todos, poner ç por s, y z por ç, o al revés» (2014: 430-431). En Heredia Mantis (2018) se ha analizado esta confusión fonemática en el opus maior de Alemán, el Guzmán de Alfarache, para determinar si es una cuestión de seseo o de ceceo. Presentamos nuevos datos arrojados del análisis de otras obras de este autor, concretamente la Regla de la Cofradía, las dos cartas a un amigo y el «Prólogo al lector» para los Proverbios morales de Alonso de Barros, que matizan y desarrollan las conclusiones que se expusieron para el Guzmán de Alfarache. Pretendemos así ampliar la perspectiva que tenemos del espacio de variación existente entre 1580 y 1610 en cuanto a los fonemas dentoalveolares fricativos en Andalucía occidental.
