Abstract

El culto a las reliquias encuentra su origen en los comienzos del cristianismo, con las primeras persecuciones y martirios de los santos. Además de la fe y la devoción, existieron motivos sociales, económicos y culturales para poseerlas. Durante su viaje a Tierra Santa, fray Diego de Mérida da buena cuenta de las numerosas reliquias que va encontrando a lo largo del camino, describiendo cada detalle con su característico estilo didáctico y ameno
