Abstract

[EN] The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the weight of the animals, both the initial and final weight, genotype, sex and season on productive performance in commercial feedlot lamb farms. We used the information to 369 trials in 64 feedlot farms located in Spain and Portugal, in the period 1992-2011. Both the initial weight and final weight of lambs had no statistically significant influence on the average daily live weight gain of lambs. The conversion rate index increased to do initial and final weights. The genotype and sex of lots of lambs determine the growth performance during the trial, not the time of year when this is done. It is possible to predict (R2 > 0,97) the conversion ratio (kg feed / kg gain) from the initial and final weight of lambs, which can provide insight daily gain or intake from one of them.
