Malaspina 2010 circumnavigation expedition is an interdisciplinary research project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. On board of the oceanographic vessel Hesperides, the main goals of the scientists are to assess the impact of global change on the oceans and explore their biodiversity especially in deep ocean areas. The wide geographic area and the huge amount of generated data make the Geographic Information Technologies the best choice in order to display, manage, inventory and store all the related works developed during the expedition. In order to accomplish a good public diffusion, a Virtual Expedition has been developed using the ArGis API for Flex developed by ESRI. The Virtual Expedition viewer (http://phantalassa.imedea.uib-csic.es/malaspina) allows an interactive monitoring of the circumnavigation showing the Heperides course, stopovers, photography, satellite images, drifting buoys, papers, multimedia contents, etc.
