Abstract

[EN] The evolution of K, Ca, and Mg accumulation and some relationships among these cations were studied on two different corn hybrids growing in the field under the same conditions. The early hybrid absorbed the cations rapidly al along its vegetative growth while the late hybrid kept on absorbing the cations until maturity was reached. The differences in absorption behaviour between the hybrids decreased in the following order: K, Ca, Mg. As long as plants were growing, the cationic intensity and the ratios K/Ca and K/Mg decreased and highly significant regression equations (some of them even linear) could be fitted to the data. The ion equilibrium evolved tending to decrease the high initial content of K in favor of the other two cations, Ca being favored mostly at the beginning and Mg after kernel formation. The potential of organic synthesis is a fundamental factor for cation accumulation. In both hybrids for each cation the absorption per kernel weight unit or per total dry matter were very similar. Some recommendations for addition of the cationic nutrients to maize are also given.
