Zonación en las eflorescencias salinas del Arco de Jamete de la catedral de Santa María de Cuenca

Abstract

[ES] El conocido como “Arco de Jamete” constituye la monumental puerta de acceso al claustro de la catedral de Cuenca. Construido por Esteban Jamete entre 1546 y 1550, es considerado una obra de referencia del Renacimiento español. Está configurado como un monumental arco triunfal tras el que se abre una capilla con bóveda elíptica, nichos laterales y la portada del claustro al fondo. El estado de conservación es alarmante, mostrando importantes faltas de volumen en esculturas y paramentos. Este avanzado deterioro es consecuencia de, por una parte, un proceso continuo asociado a la cristalización de sales; y por otra parte, al desafortunado hundimiento de la torre del Giraldo de la catedral (1902), parte de la cual cayó sobre el espacio del Arco de Jamete. Desde 2020, la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha y el Instituto Geológico y Minero de España están colaborando en el estudio y caracterización del proceso erosivo que afecta al conjunto del Arco de Jamete. Este trabajo se centra en el análisis de las eflorescencias salinas del monumento. El deterioro por cristalización de sales es un problema frecuente en el patrimonio arquitectónico de la catedral (Martínez-Martínez et al., 2021), pero en el caso del Arco de Jamete este proceso alcanza una intensidad llamativa. Los resultados de este artículo muestran la zonación observada en las sales, tanto respecto al habito cristalino como a su mineralogía.
