[EN] The genus Plesionika has a widespread occurrence all over the world and consists mainly of deep-water shrimps. The species of this genus are nektobenthic, feeding on pelagic and benthic resources. Many studies have been made on the Plesionika species of the Mediterranean and European Atlantic region, mainly concerning their biogeography and ecology, but less their biology. In this region, there are eight species of the genus: Plesionika antigai, P. gigliolii, P. heterocarpus, P. martia, P. narval, P. acanthonotus, P. edwardsii, and P. ensis, all of small or no economic importance. © Koninklijke Brill NV, 2005
