Mito y viaje. Leyendas fundacionales en la Antigüedad clásica

Abstract

[EN] This article discusses the frequency, the importance and the consequences of the journey of heroes and heroines in many classic myths. The journeys to distant and unknown lands, and especially the sea voyage, have the symbolism of initiating journeys where risk leads to immortality or death. In the context of the movements of the heroes, the connection between mythical journeys and Greek expansion outside their borders is evident, justifying the colonization of the new territories through myths. The research alludes to the important role played by some mythical women in these journeys, focusing on four of them who turned into topoi, Cirene, Dánae, Europe and Io.
