Las terrazas marinas del cuaternario reciente en los litorales de Murcia y Almería (España): el control de la neotectónica en la disposición y número de las mismas

Abstract

Incluimos dentro del Cuaternario reciente .las playas marinas tirrenienses, es decir, con Strombus Bubonius, y las holocenas. Las primeras empiezan a desarrollarse hacia los 180.000 años y las segundas hacia los 8.000 años. Del estudio cartográfico y sedimentológico de las mismas se deduce que: la disposición geométrica/espacial, número y altura están claramente condicionados por la actividad tectónica de este área de las Béticas orientales. En la región de Almena se observa el mayor número de niveles tirrenienses, cuatro, repartidos entre las Cotas de 18 a 1 m.; estas alturas decrecen paulatinamente hacia el Norte hasta la zona sur de Terreros, donde se observan, por última vez, tres terrazas tirrenienses. A partir de este punto, hasta el límite de las provincias de Murcia y Alicante, sólo se observa un nivel aislado y a cotas muy próximas al cero actual. Este mismo fenómeno se repite en las playas holocenas. Todo ello sugiere que, al menos durante el Cuaternario reciente y en la actualidad, la región de Almena se comporta como un área en elevación más o menos constante, mientras que el litoral de Murcia se presenta como una zona de hundimiento. Los empujes tectónicos parecen transmitirse de Sur a Norte, siendo las deformaciones más frecuentes y de modalidad más variable en la región de Almena.
