Las áreas de mitosis forjan nuevos estilos en los estudios sobre paleontología de mamíferos

Abstract

Desde el siglo XIX, la morfología descriptiva y comparada de los molares, basada en la observación directa y comparación morfológica, es utilizada para elegir los caracteres, que mejor fundamenta la filogenia de los linajes de mamíferos. Los datos obtenidos muestran una conceptuación mediante las teorías clásicas (Cope, 1883; Osborn, 1907). La falta de valoración explícita de la naturaleza biológica de los caracteres elegidos como filogenéticamente significativos en las teorías clásicas, es causa de analogías falsas, que crean paradojas en los linajes y obligan a revisar constantemente la taxonomía. A partir de las observaciones que constatan la génesis de cada tubérculo, como resultado de la morfogénesis de un área específica en la papila dental con elevada densidad celular e intensa actividad mitótica, que es petrificada por una capa de esmalte, es enunciado un desarrollo ontogenético donde cada carácter adulto está relacionado con su correspondiente morfología embrionaria. Esta ontogenia donde están integrados: morfología adulta, información genética, bioquímica y procesos de adaptación ecológica, crea un ámbito conceptual de morfología descriptiva que valora la naturaleza biológica de cada carácter por: capacidad para ser heredado y grado de participación en la función masticadora. Los caracteres de un molar con su naturaleza biológica valorada, dispuestos en una serie inalterable, forman la serie de referencia (SR). Las series de referencia cuando es ponderada su similitud y ubicadas en tiempo y hábitats, describen filogenias. La ontogenia basada en la naturaleza biológica de los caracteres crea una nueva base conceptual en la morfología clásica, que es capaz de correlacionar el fenotipo con secuencias de ADN, incluyendo el empleo de técnicas para recuperar el ADN en los fósiles.
