Revisión sistemática del género Anchitherium Meyer 1834 (Equidae; Perissodactyla) en España

Abstract

En el presente trabajo se lleva a cabo la revisión sistemática del género Anchitherium Meyer 1834 en España, donde se distribuye cronológicamente desde la biozona MN 3 hasta la MN 9. Se ha llevado a cabo un estudio morfométrico y morfológico, y los resultados del mismo nos permiten diferenciar varias especies a lo largo de la distribución cronológica de este género en nuestro país. Se reconoce A. aurelianense Cuvier 1825 en las localidades de Buñol (Valencia; MN 4), Alto de Ballester 1 (Temel; MN 3), Sant Andreu de la Barca (MN 3) y, con reservas, en Agreda (Teruel; MN 3) lo que constituye la cita más antigua del género en nuestra península; A. sampelayoi Villalta y Crusafont 1945 en Nombrevilla I (Zaragoza; MN 9); A. corcolense lñigo 1997 en Córcoles (Guadalajara; MN 4); A. castellanum sp. nov. en La Retama (Cuenca; MN 4); A. matritense sp. nov. en Pte. de Vallecas, Estación Imperial, Pte. de Toledo, La Fuentecilla (todos en Madrid; MN 5) y en La Cistérniga (Valladolid; MN 7/8); A. alberdiae sp. nov. en Paseo de las Acacias, y probablemente en PAR-Peñuelas y La Hidroeléctrica (todos en Madrid; MN 5); A. cursor sp. nov. en Alhambra-Túneles (MN 6; Madrid) y Arroyo del Olivar (Madrid; MN 5); A. procerum sp. nov. en Paralelos V (Madrid; MN 6); A. parequinum sp. nov. en El Terrero y Valdemoros 11 (Zaragoza; MN 5). El holotipo de la especie A. osmundseni Cursaron y Golpe 1971 queda asignado a Chalicotherium grande Blainville 1849, por lo que dicha especie de anquiterino es nomen nudum; la especie A. ezquerrae Meyer 1844 de Cerro de San Isidro (Madrid; MN 5) queda restringida a los escasos restos originales con los que fue descrita por V. Meyer. Permanecen como Anchitherium sp. los restos de las localidades de Paralellos III (Madrid; MN 6), Montejo de la Vega (Segovia, MN 7/8), La Barranca y Arroyo del Val (Zaragoza; MN 6), Cerro del Otero (Palencia; MN 7/8) y el anquiterino grande de La Cistémiga (Valladolid; MN 7/8). Además, proponemos la existencia de dos líneas evolutivas que aumentan por separado el tamaño de la dentición yugal.
