Abstract

[EN] The aim of this article is to present and describe the form and content of the vocabularies included in the work of the Rev. Alexander Thomson, La escalera o Lecciones progresiṿas en la ciencia y literatura (Constantinople, 1888), written in Judaeo-Spanish. These vocabularies, characterized by the etymological information that they often include, and the encyclopaedism and the recourse to the opposition definition that they exhibit, are the best known example of Sephardic lexicography relative to the so-called Languages of Speciality, and seem to be inspired by previous pedagogical works such as Una mirada a los cielos (Constantinople, 1850), which already presents those same features in the glossaries it contain

[ES] Con el presente artículo se pretende dar a conocer y describir la forma y el contenido de los vocabularios incluidos en la obra del Rev. Alexander Thomson, La escalera o Lecciones progresiṿas en la ciencia y literatura (Constantinopla, 1888), escrita en judeoespañol. Estos vocabularios, caracterizados por la reseña etimológica que con frecuencia incluyen, y el enciclopedismo y el recurso a la definición por oposición que exhiben, son el mayor ejemplo conocido de lexicografía sefardí relativa a las lenguas de especialidad, y parecen inspirarse en obras pedagógicas anteriores como Una mirada a los cielos (Constantinopla, 1850), que presenta ya esos mismos rasgos en los glosarios que contiene

Este estudio se enmarca dentro de las labores del Proyecto de Investigación «Sefarad, siglo xxi (2017- 2020): Edición y estudio filológico de textos sefardíes» del Plan Nacional I+D+I (ref. FFI2016-74864-P) financiado por el Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (España). Una versión preliminar y abreviada del mismo fue presentada en el XX Congreso de Estudios Sefardíes, celebrado en la Universidadde Bar-Ilan (Israel), los días 3-5 de septiembre de 2018
