Abstract

Partiendo de una breve reflexión introductoria en torno al concepto de patrimonio, este artículo se aproxima a los usos que dicho concepto tiene dentro del ámbito educativo en la ciudad de Elche, significativa debido a que cuenta con tres menciones de Patrimonio de la Humanidad por parte de la UNESCO, tomando como muestra varios centros de Educación Secundaria de la ciudad. A través de un método de investigación cualitativo basado en la entrevista semiestructurada, esta investigación trata de acercarse a la realidad de las aulas con el objetivo de analizar cómo se transmiten en ellas los conocimientos patrimoniales, con el fin de mostrar que la denominada “educación en patrimonio” es algo apenas visible en los centros. La discusión final se centra en el debate sobre la necesidad de educar en patrimonio, concluyendo que este tipo de conocimientos puede ayudar al alumnado a conocer mejor el contexto en el que se integran.

Based on a brief reflection on the concept of heritage, this article approaches the uses that this concept has within the educational field. Taking as a sample several centers of secondary education in the city of Elche –which has three World Heritage Sites that have been recognized by UNESCO-, and through a method of investigation based in the semistructured interview, this research tries to approach the reality of the classrooms with the aim of analyzing how heritage knowledge is transmitted within the educational field. The results show that the "heritage education" is something hardly visible in high schools, and the final discussion focuses on the debate about the need to “educate in heritage”, concluding that this can be positive for students, since this type of education can help them to better understand the context in which they live in
