Durante la posguerra española, muchos dramaturgos antifranquistas optaron por disfrazar sus obras, de tal modo que sus críticas al sistema pasaran desapercibidas a la censura. Juan Benet, autor de un reducido corpus dramático, podría ser uno de ellos, sobre todo por su drama Anastas o el origen de la Constitución (1958). Nuestra intención consiste en dilucidar si, en efecto, se encuentra en la línea del teatro posibilista escrito por Buero Vallejo y otros o si, por el contrario, rehúye el compromiso político y, como la mayor parte de la literatura benetiana, responde a unos criterios estrictamente personales, opuestos a la militancia y favorables a la innovación técnica.
