[EN] Maedi Visna is a contagious disease of sheep with a slow clinical course where affected sheep show a progressive loss of weight. It can have a significant economic impact in the flock due to direct loss of animals, premature culling of productive ewes, decrease of production and commercial barriers. The absence of treatment or vaccination against this disease, together with its insidious character and economic relevance, makes it necessary to implement control programs in order to stop its propagation. The different measures proposed depend on the management and characteristics of the flock but all of them have in common to be based on the serological analysis of the flock and the segregation between infected and non infected animals.
