Abstract

Salmon are cultured for all or part of their life cycle in several countries of the Pacific Rim, including, in the Northern Hemisphere, Canada, Japan, Russia and the USA, and in the Southern Hemisphere, Chile, Australia and New Zealand. In all these countries there have been studies on the utilization of endocrine and genetic technologies to produce monosex or sterile salmonid stocks, and in several, including Australia, Canada and the USA, these biotechnologies have been implemented on a production scale
