Abstract

[EN] This paper analyzes the effect of sprinkler irrigation en the infiltration of a “sandy loam” soil in a field experiment carried out in the inigation district of Monegros II (Huesca). Five treatments were established: 1) sorghum crop, 2) sorghum crop plus gypsum, 3) bare soil, 4) bare soil plus gypsum, and 5) bare soil with sand cover. Results indicated that physical dispersion of soil surface was reduced by crop cover and by the addition of a sand layer to the soil surface. Crop cover and sand treatments maintained an infiltration rate similar to the sprinkler application rate (8.7 mm/h), however in bare soil treatments, infiltration rates decreased to values between 4.3 mmlh and 5.8 mm/h. Gypsum application did not have any effect on water infiltration neither en crop yield and its components. This indicated that crop water availability in the root zone was similar in treatments with crop and crop with gypsum application.
