Abstract

[EN] A case of toxicity of closantel is described in a Xalda sheep occurred on a farm were some animals died in June 2016. In the sheep submitted for necropsy ataxia, dilated pupils and blindness were noted. Bilateral symmetrical intramyelinic spongiosis of the white matter of the brain and spinal cord adjacent to the lateral ventricles and in subpial location were observed. Edema in the optic nerve and necrosis of the outer nuclear layer and segments and vacuolation of the ganglions cells were evident. We were informed by the clinical veterinarian that the owner administered 25 sheep with Endoex and 24-48 hours after administration of the drug the animals presented the clinical sings. 14 sheep that received other antihelmintic remained normal.
