[EN] Exotic sweet corn from North America do not grow properly in humid Spain. To solve this problem a breeding program was undertaken, beginning with exotic elite inbred lines, to obtain adapted, second cycle inbred lines, improving mainly early vigour, emergency rate, and earliness. The combining ability of these lines was evaluated with adequate testers and from these evaluations, hybrids were selected to measure the effectiveness of the breeding program by comparing these hybrids with checks and commercial varieties in three environments. These hybrids performed better than checks having the same growth period. It is concluded that selection for early vigour and earliness has been effective.
