[EN] Production characters of seedling in boxes such as germination rate, leaf size, leaf and tiller number, dry matter and protein content have been studied in six Italian ryegrass {Lolium multiflorum, Lamk.) ecotypes, which we consider autochthonous, belonging to different sites of Pontevedra province. Having considered the behaviour of the populations against the recorded characters, three different groups have been made. One population of each group has been selected to carry out a further experiment on the field with several levéis of nitrogen fertilizers. The correlation coefficient between the characters has been calculated, and shows that those populations which have high dry matter production, have also high valúes for tiller number and leaf size. However, protein content is negatively correlated to dry matter and leaf size.
