[EN]The profound study of the foedus gabinum by means of the study of ancient textual sources permits a reconstruction of the general history of Gabii during the Vth and IVth cent. B.C. The author investigates in this article- postponing the condition of the question -the nature of the foedus, its pretentious opposition to devotio, mentioned by Macrobius, its dating and the circumstances of the treatise. Later on he shows the historical existence of the foedus, which is proved by the two preserved terms -cinctus gabinus and ager gabinus -and finally sums up the consequences.
