Abstract

[EN]: In recent years we have invested a considerable amount of effort in the identification, analysis and classification of historical quarries within the limits of the current Region of Murcia. Of all the quarries listed to date around 30 can be dated to the Roman period, divided between small one-off exploitations opened in response to a specific need for raw materials, and arger quarries exploited to answer to the constructive and decorative needs of urban settlements. In this work, we have focused on the analysis of the main sources of constructive and ornamental stone for the Phoenician-Roman city of Carthago Nova, examining the diversity of types of stone extracted and the systems implemented for the exploitation and distribution of some of the main materials involved in private construction projects in the city.
