El aprovisionamiento de los materiales constructivos en la arquitectura de Augusta Emerita: las canteras de granito

Abstract

La importancia histórica y económica del empleo del granito en Augusta Emerita nos ha obligado a abrir una temática de investigación específica en este sentido. Esta primera aproximación se basa en el reconocimiento de los contextos productivos de época romana mediante una prospección sistemática de los restos de las explotaciones en una parte amplia del territorio. La investigación se desarrolla en relación con un programa de investigación vinculado a la Arqueología de la Construcción y a una tesis doctoral sobre la caracterización petrográfica de los granitos emeritenses y su empleo en los edificios públicos. La complejidad de los procesos de construcción de la arquitectura pública de la ciudad y la necesidad de comprender la totalidad de un ciclo productivo de un edificio exige un estudio monográfico sobre el approvisionamiento de las materias primas empleadas.
