Abstract

[EN] The State of Paraná has a coast 98 km long, being marked by two estuarine complex (Paranaguá and Guaratuba Bays) and a continental shelf width from 175 to 190 km; commercially explored by São Paulo, Paraná and Santa Catarina fishing fleets. In this study we analyze the demersal fish community from the inner continental shelf adjacent to Paranaguá Bay, that is supposed to be influenced by fisheries activities. The samples were obtained monthly, by otter trawl, from August / 2000 to July / 2001. Two areas, north and south, were surveyed from two tows of 30 minutes for each area. A total of 45277 individuals, distributed in 38 families and 98 species, were captured; from these 18152 were selected for measuring. The specimens were identified, counted, weighted (g), measured (Total Length and Standard Length), and had their sex and stage of gonad maturation determined. In Menticirrhus americanus, Paralonchurus brasiliensis, Stellifer brasiliensis and Stellifer rastrifer, the gonads were removed, weighted, fastened in Bouin, embed in paraffin, cut in 4 to 7 μm, differentiated with Haematoxylin - Eosin and mounted in DPX; the sheets were analyzed and photomicrographed under microscopic optical. The Sciaenidae species represented about 40% of the total number of individuals captured, followed by the carangids (19%) and Pristigasteridae (14%). The north area was characterized by the presence of Ariidae, Rhinobatidae and Paralichthyidae family, mainly related to the sediment features. The reproductive activities were responsible for the larger catches, with peaks in December, March and April. M. americanus, P. brasiliensis, S. brasiliensis and S. rastrifer, presented six stages of ovarian development and the ovocit development was characterized. As for the sexual proportion male:female M. americanus presented 1.5:1, P. brasiliensis 1.2:1, S. brasiliensis 1.1:1 and S. rastrifer 0,9:1. According to GSI results and the microscopic observation, these species have two reproductive peaks along the year, from September to December, and in April and May, with no coincidence of the first among species
