The Bay of Cádiz is a shallow coastal ecosystem composed of two basins (inner and outer bay) connected by a narrow navigation channel. Samples were collected monthly in three stations during almost 2 years. We assess the annual variability of the planktonic metabolism in the Bay of Cadiz studying the Gross primary production (GPP), respiration (R), and net production (NCP) monthly in the three stations. Besides dissolved and particulate organic carbon (DOC, POC), Chlorophyll a concentrations and stable isotopes were also measured. The aim of this work is to estimate the metabolic balance and carbon budget in the Bay of Cádiz in order to estimate if the Bay is a carbon source or sink to the adjacent coastal waters.
