Validación Española del Inventario de Duelo Complicado Adaptado a los Trastornos Adaptativos

Abstract

Adjustment disorders (AD) are defined as a maladaptive reaction to a specific stressful event. Nowadays, AD are one of the most prevalent psychological problems in primary and hospital care, therefore being necessary to have available evidence-based instruments to help the professional in the diagnosis of this problem and to know better the AD field, which has been poorly studied so far. The aim of this study is to provide preliminary validation data of an adaptation of the Inventory of Complicated Grief (ICG) to assess AD in general and clinical Spanish populations. This adaptation was named Inventory of Stress and Loss (ISL). The general sample consisted of 208 participants and the clinical sample included 75 patients. The results of the statistical analyses showed that the ISL has a high internal consistency and good test-retest reliability. The exploratory factor analysis revealed 3 factors. Finally, significant differences were found in the total score of the questionnaire between the clinical and general samples, and between men and women of the general sample. The results suggest that the ISL is a simple and useful assessment tool that shows good psychometric properties and allows differentiating the normal reactions from the pathological ones to a stressful situation, thus facilitating the diagnosis and treatment of AD.
