Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility is an intangible that keeps increasing over time. In the last few years it is becoming steadily more important due to the value it provides to a number of organisations. In addition, the oil companies are immersed in the problem of climate change. Therefore, the main objective of this final master project is to examine what kind of contents and how the main oil companies, which develop their activity in Spain, inform about their corporate social responsibility through their web pages. These companies are those of Repsol, Cepsa and BP. The theory concerning CSR has been considered for this analysis, including the main topics related to this issue. These topics have to do with reputation, ethics and the regulations developed so far. Likewise, the theory dealing with how communication should be and its presence in organisations has been taken into account. A brief analysis of the sector has been carried out to investigate how the current situation is and how it has been reached. This will help us to broaden our vision when analysing the results. For this analysis a protocol of nine variables has been carried out to study in depth how communication takes place in these websites. In this sense, this analysis together with the revised theoretical framework will lead us to broaden our vision. As a result, we will be able to recognise where they are correct and where they have to improve. Once this study has been done, we have come to the conclusion that both websites as well as sustainability reports are paramount for the communication of CSR. However, there is a trend towards the use of audiovisual material. In this line, the presence of unidirectionality and a limited access to different sources of information for different stakeholders can be perceived today.
