Abstract

Introduction: The Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is systematic maneuver that is made to revert a heart arrest. The majority of heart arrest occurs out of hospital, the time is taken until starting the CPR manouvres is essential to survive, so the first participants of the process must be trained to do it. Aims: determine the efectivity of an educational training in the improvement of previous knowledge about CPR. Methodology: a quasi-experimental. Data about socio-demographic variables was performed and the level of previous knowledge before attending to learning was valued with a survey designed by the investigators. Afterwards, the percentage of the improvement in the results was determined. A descriptive analysis of results was carried out and the relation among variables was analyzed. Findings: 108 people with an average age of 26 years participated in the study, although only 102 questionnaires were analyzed. Statistically, a significant and linear relation between the age and the results of the test was found, in both initial and final ones within the group of children and adults (reverse relation). When we compare the results depending on the group of ages, we find that there are significant differences among the three groups in the initial results and in the percentages of improvement. Conclusions: Despite the limitations of this study, the educational training increases the level of knowledge in the population. It is necessary to do the training about CPR and the ideal moment is during the schooling. The coordination between educative and health administration to develop and implement an educational program is a pending task.
