Based, for his analysis, on several published works, the author of this study approaches the absenteeism concept, its operating definition and evaluating instruments. The goal of this work is not only to explain the difficulty/impossibility in achieving an extended analysis of absenteeism so as to enable an added knowledge, but also to put forward possibilities to position the absentist behaviour within a broader reference field in order to help overpass the present situaiion.
