Abstract

Na presente dissertação, pretendemos estudar a representação do público em geral sobre as crianças adoptadas visando, nomeadamente, detectar eventuais atribuições internas preconceituosas, como por exemplo, carências afectivas, agressividade, instabilidade emocional e dependência dos adultos. Para esse efeito, utilizámos uma adaptação do Child History Expectations Questionnaire (CHEQ; Briggs et al, 1994,1995) o qual mede as atitudes face a uma criança-alvo apresentada como cometendo uma acção agressiva gratuita. Adicionalmente, manipulámos a situação/origem familiar da criança-alvo - com pais biológicos, com pais adoptivos, ou numa instituição/centro a aguardar a adopção - de forma a comparamos as atitudes registadas nas três situações. O estudo foi realizado com uma amostra de 180 sujeitos (90 homens, e 90 mulheres, idade, M=32.96, DP=11.92), os quais foram divididos aleatoriamente pelas três condições experimentais. A maioria dos resultados encontrados aponta para uma representação globalmente positiva da criança-alvo, independentemente da sua condição familiar, sugerindo uma ausência de preconceito face à criança adoptada nas dimensões observadas. São apontadas algumas limitações a este estudo e lançam-se sugestões para futuras investigações.
