El objeto de este estudio ha sido catálogar los fragmentos de sarcófagos existentes que han sido recuperados en Begastri como testimonio material de los primeros cristianos en esta notable ciudad romana del sureste de la Península Ibérica y sede episcopal de la España visigoda. Todavía es necesario llevar a cabo una búsqueda exhaustiva de paralelos, pero pese a sus obvias limitaciones, este catálogo quiere constituir un primer y necesario punto de partida para futuros estudios en el campo del arte y la arqueología cristianas del cristianismo primitivo en España.

This study attempts a catalogue of every extant sarcophagi fragments that have been found in Begastri, as a testimony to the early Christians in this noteworthy Roman city and episcopal seat in south eastern Iberian Peninsula. It is still necessary to make an exhaustive search for the parallels to other testimonies, but despite obvious limitations and lack of direct knowledge of those parallels, this catalogue will be the necessary starting point for further studies of the art and archaeology of the early Christian period in Spain.
