Abstract

ABSTRACT: The article presents four steps of the debate between liberals and communitarians. In the first one develops the basic criticism of communitarians againts liberal ideology. These criticisms consist of pointing to individualism, moral formalism and the uprooting of the modern individual form community life. The second moment shows John Rawls' answer to these criticisms. The third develops the approaching of liberals and communitarians to each other through the reonstruction of Michael Walzer's proposals. The fourth moment, by means of the presentation of recent controversy between Habermas and Rawls, shows a new rupture between liberals and communitarians.
