La necesidad de defensa es la razón fundamental que mueve a los reyes del estado nazarí a construir o refortificar sus ciudades. Para valorar el sentido funcional de la arquitectura militar del Reino de Granada es fundamental analizar los enclaves estratégicos y fronterizos que lo componen. Este estudio se centra en la ciudad de Archidona, ciudad sobre la que serán tratados los siguientes aspectos concretos: análisis historiográfico de la ciudad; aproximación histórica de la zona desde una perspectiva geográfica, física y evolutiva; y el reconocimiento in situ de las estructuras defensivas de la mencionada villa.

The necessity of Defense is the fundamental reason that animates the nasrid kings to build or fortify their cities. To evaluate the functional sense of military architecture of the Kingdom of Granada, it is essential to analyze the strategic enclaves and borders that it contains. This study focuses on the city of Archidona where the following special aspects will be treated: historiographical analysis of the city; historical approach of the zone from a geographical, fisical and evolutionary perspective; and the acknowledgment of the site’s difensive structure of the mentioned Villa.
