Con una estructura económica sustentada en la agricultura hasta los años setenta el petróleo se ha encargado posteriormente de introducir fuertes modiicaciones, auspiciadas por el Estado que ha refoaado el papel de actividades favorecidas. El peso del sector industrial ha multiplicado su importancia por cuatro consolidando a las provincias de Guayas y Pichincha y a las ciudades de Quito y Guayaquil. Pero se ha convertido en un sector frágil y poco competitivo que ha introducido fueiiss desequilibrios territoriales.

After having had an economical structure based on agriculture until he seventies, oil has later been responsible of introducing dramatic modifications patronized by the state, who has fostered the favoured activities. The weight of industrial sector has multiplied four times its importante, consolidating the provinces og Guayas and Pichincha, and the towns of Quito and Guayaquil. But it has become a fragile and little competitive sector with has introduced important territorial off balance.
