El objetivo de esta investigación fue examinar la relación existente entre la percepción de los estilos educativos parentales y la inadaptación personal y social en adolescentes, así como posibles diferencias de género en estas dos formas de inadaptación. Todos los sujetos cumplimentaron el Test Autoevaluativo Multifactorial de Adaptación Infantil (T AMAI), del cual se analizaron las puntuaciones obtenidas en las subescalas de Educación Asistencial-Personalizada (estilo democrático), Permisivismo (estilo permisivo) y Restricción (estilo autoritario), y en las escalas de Inadaptación Personal e Inadaptación Social. Nuestros resultados indican que los adolescentes que perciben a sus padres con un estilo educativo más permisivo o autoritario son los más inadaptados personal y socialmente; que el estilo educativo con mayor poder explicativo del grado de ajuste personal y social de los jóvenes es el democrático; y que las chicas muestran mayores dificultades de adaptación en el ámbito personal que los chicos. ---------------------

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between adolescents' perception of parenting styles and their personal and social maladjustment, as well as gender differences in these two kinds of rnaladjustment. The Test Autoevaluativo Multifactorial de Adaptación Infantil (T AMAI) was administered to the sarnple. From this test, the subjects' seores in the Assisted-Personalized Education (authoritative style), Permissiveness (indulgent style), and Restriction (authoritarian style) subscales, and in the Personal Maladjustment, and Social Maladjustment scales were analyzed. Our results indicate that adolescents who perceive their parents using a more permissive or authoritarian educational style are the most personally and socially maladjusted; that the educational style that has the greatcst cxplanalory power of the degree of youths' personal and social adjuslmcnt is the democratic one; and that girls show greater problems of adaptation in the personal field than boys.
