O artigo apresenta o histórico de um dos grupos de pesquisa brasileiros mais antigos em Ciência da Informação. Criado em 1996, o grupo de pesquisa Comunicação Científica da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sulcresceu de forma lenta e consistente, tornando-se um dos grupos nacionais mais respeitados em estudos métricos e de comunicação científica.O artigo relataas principais conquistas do grupo, assim como agenealogia elista de teses e dissertações orientadas pelas professoras líderes do grupo, Ida Regina Chittó Stumpf, Sônia Elisa Caregnato e Samile Andrea de Souza Vanz.
The paper presents the history of one of the oldest Brazilian research groups in Information Science. Created in 1996, the Scientific Communication research group at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul grew slowly and consistently, becoming one of the most respected national groups in metricsand scientific communication studies. The article presents the group's main achievements, as well as thegenealogy and thelist of theses and dissertations tutoredby the group's leading researchers, Ida Regina Chittó Stumpf, Sônia Elisa Caregnato and Samile Andrea de Souza Vanz.
