The main objective of this article is to offer an overview of the main challenges to be faced in relation to visual arts education in Brazil, highlighting the importance and the need for a maturation of research in the area of art and education, taking into consideration, for example, the role of GT 24 – Education and Art in an institution such as the Association of graduate studies and research in Education [Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Educação] (ANPEd), as well as the desirable connection between growing academic production in the field and pedagogical practices present in the school context, especially in public schools. Starting with the discussion around challenges of a political character (which spaces does art need to conquer in the field of education?), as well as epistemological (what is the knowledge of art and education made of?) and pedagogical (what kind of art could intrigue schools?), this article outlines some perspectives of thought and research in the field. In order to give an overview of the challenges imposed on the relationship between art and education in Brazil (more specifically Visual Arts) and discuss some perspectives, we use the writings of authors who deal with this subject: Barbosa, Tourinho, Martins and Pereira, among others. At the end, we point out the possibility of shaping new aesthetic scenarios for art taught in schools which are less soothing and romantic, and more instigating and contemporary.

Este artigo tem como objetivo principal trazer um panorama a respeito dos principais desafios a serem enfrentados em relação ao ensino de artes visuais no cenário brasileiro, destacando a importância e a necessidade do amadurecimento das pesquisas da área de arte e educação, levando em conta, por exemplo, o papel que cumpre o GT 24 – Educação e Arte em uma entidade como a Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Educação (ANPEd), assim como a desejável conexão da crescente produção acadêmica da área com as práticas pedagógicas presentes no contexto escolar, em especial nas escolas públicas. A partir da discussão em torno de desafios de caráter político (quais os espaços que a arte precisa conquistar no campo da educação?), epistemológico (de que é feito o conhecimento em arte e educação?) e pedagógico (que arte inquieta a escola?), o artigo delineia algumas perspectivas de pensamento e de pesquisa na área. Para traçar o panorama dos desafios que se impõem na relação entre arte e educação no Brasil (mais especificamente Artes Visuais) e discutir algumas perspectivas, utilizam-se autores que tem se dedicado a essa temática como Barbosa, Tourinho, Martins e Pereira, entre outros. Ao final, aponta-se a possibilidade de constituirmos novos cenários estéticos para as artes na escola, menos apaziguadores e românticos, mais instigantes e contemporâneos.
