The present article analyses the work of Simões Lopes Neto, Contos Gauchescos, as a product of the tension between the project of regional folklore (subtitle of the books first edition) and the literally creation of Blau Nunes. From the comparison between Melancia-coco verde and Melancia coco mole, a popular tale collected by Silvio Romero, we analyze the novelty of Simões Lopes Neto, shown in the tale, in the figures of Blau Nunes and Reduzo. In the first, we recover the marks of the narrative, while in the second, we particularize a more complex character.
